You are what you eat
You have heard that you are what you eat.
I am a living example of that. After decades of reckless food and beverages consumption, I am now taking medication for hypertension. Since I spent decades wrecking my body, I need time to fix it. It doesn’t happen overnight. With careful diet, regular exercises and enough sleep (and proper handling of stress), I hope to restore a certain level of normalcy to my body.
You are what you think
Friend Simon used to quote René Descartes in his email signature – “I think therefore I am”. (Je pense donc je suis)
Henry Ford said, ” If you think you can do a thing or think you can’t do a thing, you’re right.”
Indeed, they way we think shape our lives.
I’d like to suggest another thing.
You are what you say
With the advancement of technology, the adage that no man is an island takes on a new dimension. Anyone can appear intelligent, well-read, smart behind the avatar / logo / identity in cyberspace. Social networking has made this very possible.
Unfortunately, there are some who regurgitate anything and everything they get – without the sense to first verify and validate the source. As a result, we see people passing on decade-old hoax with great enthusiasm like when Columbus discovered America. The desire to be the first among friends to share “first hand news” has perhaps spurred on such people who are perhaps good-natured but foolish.
If you are seen as a person who cannot differentiate between
- facts and fiction
- news and rumours
and worse is if you are seen as a person who don’t even bother to check your facts before sharing, you have zero credibility.
You are
- not trustworthy
- irresponsible
- lazy
- out for the attention
Think. If you pass on a 20 year old hoax as facts, would ANYONE believe you when you tell them Jesus is Lord? We have to be responsible with every thing we share.
