First, I’d like to thank God, the creator of all things, the giver of every breath we breathe, the author and finisher of our faith, the Alpha and the Omega.
When Kathleen discovered the lump in her right breast slightly more than 2 weeks ago, the three of us didn’t really know what to think. On 14/02/2012, Kathleen went to UMMC to get it checked at the recommendation of a GP. She was given a biopsy and the result would be ready on 14 days later, which is today, 28/03/2012 (Wed), which happens to be her birthday.
While we clung to God with faith, negative thoughts keep coming. Kathleen wanted me to get her a pink coffin. I told her I would do no such think and the only thing I would do is to get a regular one and paint it myself. She kept reminding me to help Jesse develop a disciplined spiritual life.
She didn’t want to tell anyone. She didn’t want others to worry. I secretly told some, including Pastor Chris M, our Zone Pastor, James, our CG leader, Yu Fong, our CG member, Jen, my H&L (that stands for heart and lungs) who has moved to Canada, and Grace, my prayer partner of old. I told my boss, my Little Sister and my GM too. Of course, I told my parents and my siblings.
I’d like to thank you for your encouragements. You shared your own experiences. You comforted us. You stood with us.
Today, I took leave to accompany her to UMMC to get her results. I parked my car at the Dream Centre and we went to UMMC in her car. While waiting for her, I got a chance to help change a spare tire for a parent.
It was a long wait in UMMC. We both took turns to catch forty winks while keeping an eye on the number being called. (I didn’t sleep until after 3 AM, fixing something with the database.) When 0008 was announced for room 12, we went. I was thinking whether it would be embarrassing if it was a male doctor. It was a female doctor, a Dr Tay (sp?) who was also a lecturer. With her was her student, Nur. Dr Tay told us the biopsy report indicated the lump to be a benign proliferation. She was still not happy though because the biopsy didn’t tell her what it was. She asked Kathleen to get a mammogram and go see her again. In fact, she said she was more concerned about her skin condition. She thought it might not be eczema but psoriasis.
We had a little chat when we asked their opinions about becoming a doctor. Dr. Tay was excited to know that Jesse aspired to be one. She herself came from IMU. She recommended local universities and colleges or India.
Kathleen now has 4 appointments
- To get a mammogram in Assunta (Trusted for generations!).
- To get her blood taken for tests.
- To meet the immunologist with the result of the blood test.
- To meet Dr Tay again with both the mammogram and the result of the blood test.
We are just very thankful that the lump was benign. We will find out more.
It took me close to 20 minutes to leave the car park complex. We went to Methodist College Kuala Lumpur to pick up Jesse. After all, it’s Kathleen’s birthday. While waiting for Jesse, Kathleen finally had the peace of mind to Draw Something on her Samsung Galaxy SII. She had fun. We had a nice little dinner with Jesse footing the bill.
Now that she no longer has the dark cloud looming, she ONLY has to get me to do what I am supposed to do (e.g. pay bills, do SOL II and SOL III with them, exercise, etc.) and Jesse to do his study seriously.
As for me, I no longer have this thing at the back of my mind and I hope to get back to doing what I love doing the most – helping people.
I am so thankful to God that we are surrounded with wonderful people.
All glory to Jesus!
