Without installing additional tools, you can run a second instance of Skype by creating a shortcut and adding the “/secondary” switch. Details can be found here.

You can try Multi Skype Launcher. It’s supposed to be able to run up to 5 instances, depending on how powerful your machine is.

I personally uses Trillian. One instance on Skype and the other using Trillian.
