LEAD2016 – Day 2 Session 2

Pastor Gary Skinner, Watoto Church

It is amazing what God is doing through the church around the world. One thing Jesus said he would build is the church. Nothing can stand against it, not even the gates of hell. We should not be afraid of the devil. He should be afraid of us for greater is He that is in us that he is in the world.

What the world needs more than anything else is leaders. The best leadership starts at home with fathers. One of the biggest problems is absentee fathers, which leads to orphans, even when their fathers are still alive. The Bible wants us to care for orphans.

God likes to take the weak and insignificant nobodies and let them do great and significant things.

Winning is not crossing the finish line but showing love to those who need it and making them winners.

Bartimaeus the blind man cried out to Jesus when he heard Jesus was passing by. Jesus healed him and the first thing he saw was Jesus. That’s what Jesus does. Whenever he met someone wounded, bruised, battered heart, he stopped and helped.

Jesus also loved the children. Jesus also resurrected the dead boy his widow mother was going to bury. One touch from Jesus is enough.

When Jesus reached out with one hand, he touched one. When he stretched both hands, he touched the whole world. We are the body of Christ. We are the hands of Christ. Whenever we see a wounded, bruised, battered heart, let’s be the hand of God to reach out to them.

While we are not saved by what we do but by what we do, it demonstrates that we are saved. Jesus did both – he did good and touched lives.

Jesus did it all for us. We just have to receive his gift of salvation. But there is the process of perfecting. To receive is passive. The process of perfecting is active. It is not one or the other. It’s both, one after another.

When are face judgement, we may see many people who faithfully served in their positions, people who never went on stage, who were never interviewed by magazines, etc.
Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world. (James 1:27)

God is not impressed by our cultural heritage, the size of the church, etc. The kind of pure religion God approves is one that visits the afflicted and keep ourselves pure.

The vulnerable orphans due to no fault of their own lost their parents. They cried out. God heard them and He responded by talking to us.

If we surrender to God, He can always turn insignificant things to something meaningful and significant.
