Good morning. We read 1 Sam 5.
We see the Philistines capture the ark of the covenant and bring it back to their temple for Dragon. Dagon is said to be a half bearded man and half fish. The Philistines thought they were going to boast of their god and their victory.
Yahweh made it clear he was the only God (capital G). Manmade gods (small g) are nothing compared to him. The statue of Dragon was broken, only the first remained, and it laid before the ark of the covenant, making clear who is the real God.
Not only that. Destruction struck at Ashdod, Gath, and Ekron. Wherever they moved the ark of the covenant, disaster followed. This makes it beyond doubt that Yahweh, the God of Israel was the one causing them to have tumors.
We don’t want to be defiant in our unbelief and disobedience. Instead, trust God and follow him. He will make a way (Is 35:6b-8a). And we are to prepare the way of the Lord (Is 40:3-4), that is, to make every possible impact on those around us, helping them to go one step closer to knowing and accepting Jesus.
What “Dagons” do you observe today?
