Greerings!
Psalm 78 is a rather long one, isn’t it? All 72 verses of it. It’s main theme is to remember God’s faithfulness. Man forgets. It is important we pass on the lessons of faith from one generation to the next.
Do we have a close relationship with our Abba Father? Do we have a right relationship with our Father in heaven (that he reigns, is Lord, not a genie in a bottle)? Do we have the right view of our Father God? Good, now pass it on to our next generations. This could be our children (obviously), our students, our mentees, anyone who comes after our time.
A few points I want to share.
- Testimonies
Our God is not a distant deity. We can have a personal relationship with him. Don’t you want the same for your next generation? Tell them how it is between you and God, how you seek God, how you cry to God, how you rely on God, how you revere God, and how you love God. They cannot get this from reading the Bible. You life speaks volumes about how great God is. Help instill faith in the young ones and help cultivate faith in their lives. - Lessons
When learn from the the mistakes of our predecessors we have hope of not repeating them. We also want to pass on the lessons we learn to the next generation. The times we chose to trust God or not to trust God, the time when we obeyed God or disobeyed God, the time God saved us from a disastrous outcome. All these serve as a cautionary tale. We need to acknowledge our mistakes (nothing to hide, nothing to fear, nothing to prove), by doing that, we are freed from shackles from the past. And we can encourage future generations. - God’s Faithfulness
Psalm 78 recounts the history of God’s people in times of old. They were a stiff-necked people. They were rebelous. God remained faithful. God’s patience was enduring. The moment the people turn back to God, He is there for them. We are not perfect. However, we try not to disappoint God as much as possible. He will continue to provide for us and protect us. - Respond
Psalm 78 concluded with a call to respond in faith. All the knowledge cannot help us one bit if we do not respond. We need to put our faith in God, keep out faith in God, and devote ourselves to him. In all things. We learn from the past, make a conscious and deliberate decision to follow God today, and hope for a better tomorrow. How will you respond to God will determine how you turn out in the ongoing story of God’s faithfulness.
How do you think you want to respond to God today? Don’t keep it (your faith, your testimonies, your stories) to yourself, pass it on.
