Devotion on Psalm 110: A King Forever Enthroned

Good day.Today, we read Psalm 110, a psalm of David. It opens with a declaration of God’s decree in placing someone David addressed as “my Lord” at God’s right hand. This is of course, a position of power and authority to be revered. “My Lord” is Jesus. This psalm also pointed out the dual role as both king and high priest, who intercedes for humanity.

The psalm makes is clear that the Lord’s dominion extends over his enemies. His powerful rod of judgement represented Jesus’ ultimate authority and triumph over evil. The psalm further emphasized the Lord’s reight being everlasting. He is a king forever.

David offered assurance and hope. Jesus, the King of kings sits at the right hand of God. He has authority and power. We trust his guidance. He is also the High Priest, interceding for us. We can approach him with confidence. He knows and understands our struggles and he is our advocate.

In Plasm 110, David mentioned enemies being made a footstool of “my Lord.” When we face difficulties and adversaries, trust God for he has overcome them. We server the eternal King. We must live according to this understanding.
