02/04/2024|1 Sam 31 – The Importance of Ending Well

You have heard well begun is half done or a good beginning is a half done. Today, we will see it is equally important, if not more important to finish well.

In 1 Sam 31, we read about the end of Saul’s reign and his life. It is nothing short of tragic and missed opportunities. He lost a battle with the Philistines and took his own life. He along with his three sons were beheaded.

1 Samuel 31 marks the closing chapter of Saul’s reign. It’s a story filled with tragedy and missed opportunities, but also one that reminds us of God’s sovereignty over our lives and the importance of faithfulness.

Saul was the first anointed king of Israel. His story is one of wasted potential. He started eagerly and passionately. Yet, due to disobedience, pride and a reliance on his own strength rather than God, his reign did not end well. Not following God obediently ultimately led to his downfall.

Lean Not in Your Understanding. Trust God. Obey God. Follow God. Do not ever think you are so clever, so strong, so good, that you can make it on your own.

We Can Miss the Mark. We may miss out what God want us to do. We may catch it and yet failed to follow it through because of disobedient, pride, and a desire to control everything ourselves.

God’s Grace is Always Available. God is always faithful. If we deviate from the right way, if we stray from the path, God always allow us to turn back to him.

We are called to be faithful to God, regardless of what we are facing. Keep the faith. What is something in your life that you are “taking control” now? Why did you not submit that area in your life to God?
