It’s just past midnight. You are in a foreign city. There is no more public transport. Your phone battery is flat. You need to brave the five blocks distance on foot to get back to your hotel. You are convinced there are robbers lurking in the darkness behind every corner. Where does your help come from?
In Psalm 64, David cries for God’s protection from his enemies, the wicked, and the evildoers. He is assured of God’s justice. He believes in the ultimate victory of the righteous.
“The righteous will rejoice in the Lord and take refuge in him; all the upright in heart will glory in him!” (Psalm 64:10)
Psalm 64 reminds us that God is sovereign. He is in charge. He has the power to defend you and protect you against all kinds of enemies. We should pray for the evil plans of the enemies to be exposed and brought down. We can find peace in knowing God will bring justice I his own timing. You have heard no good deeds go unpunished. Do not believe that. The fact is, no evil deeds go scot-free.
Life is full of lots of ups and downs. We often encounter challenges and adversaries seeking to harm us. In times of trouble, we find solace in the Word of God, e.g. Psalm 64, which reminds us of God’s protection and deliverance. David’s plea for refuge from the enemies echoes our own need for divine intervention when we face opposition and persecution.
You are invited to say this prayer.
Heavenly Father, hear our cries as we seek refuge from the trials and adversaries that surround us. Protect us, Father, from the schemes for the wicked enemies. Grant us discernment to recognize spiritual attacks. Give us wisdom to withstand the attacks. Give us strength. You are our fortress and deliverer. May your justice prevail! Allow us to rest in assurance of your protection. We pray in the name of Jesus, amen.
