Food for Your Soul

If you go a day without eating, you will feel weak, lethargic, and unable to function properly. Hunger takes over. Our physical bodies rely on food for energy and growth. I would like to remind ourselves that in the same way, our spiritual lives depend on the nourishment of God’s Word to thrive.

Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. (Mt 4:4)

The Bible is not just a book. It is our spiritual food, filled with truth, wisdom, and hope. Without it, the soul is malnourished. We are then vulnerable to doubts, discouragement, and temptation. We lack purpose in life. We have no direction in life.

Under normal circumstances, we would not skip meals for days and expect to stay healthy. In the same manner, we cannot neglect spending time with the Word of God and expect our faith to flourish. The Bible feeds us with reminders of God’s live, equips us to face challenges, and helps us to glow closer to God. Every verse we read is like a bite of spiritual nourishment. It gives us strength for the day ahead.

A balanced diet promotes physical health. Similarly, a consistent, prayerful study of the Bible promotes spiritual health. You can read a chapter (or four) a day, follow a devotional plan, and meditate on a specific verse. Every moment spent in God’s Word brings life to our spirits.

Let us commit to feeding our souls daily with the Bible. We can then hope to grow in faith, wisdom, and love. A well-nourished spirit is a thriving spirit.

“Put your nose into the Bible every day. It is your spiritual food. And then share it. Make a vow not to be a lukewarm Christian.” ~Kirk Cameron
