I used to eat whatever I fancy. I want to enjoy what I eat so I eat what I enjoy.
Then, two decades ago, I was diagnosed with hypertension and high cholesterol. I was told to cut salt, cut oily food, cut red meat.
In 2022, I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic. Did that put the fear of God into me? No. Right before I went for another health screening in Dec last year, I finished one whole box of ice cream bars – not at one go, spread into days, but still, lots of sugar intake.
HBA1c test showed high sugar level but fasting blood glucose test showed normal reading. I am going to get another fasting blood glucose test this month. Since I received the Dec test results, I changed what I eat. No more instant noodles. Nothing with high sugar content. I shared this before in previous posts. No more chocolate, ice cream, juices, donuts, kuih, etc.
I tried cooking. I did not like my cooking. I tried plant-based milk. I like almond milk more than oat milk. Of course, I like low fat milk best.
I am beginning to believe that to eat healthy means to eat without taste. Of course, that is not true. I do not want to believe that to be true. I will continue to try to learn to cook nice food that is healthy.
How about you? Any recipes or tips to share?
