I took Ben to the vet this morning. He will continue his airway medication so he can keep breathing comfortably. He’s also taking one probiotic and two joint supplements. Next month, we’ll return for a heart scan, and I’ll need to collect a urine sample from him that day.
I thank God that Ben is doing well. He is mobile, eats with a good appetite, and soaks up all the attention he can get. When I eat, he gives me space. When I sleep, he lies beside me like a silent guardian.
His black fur still gleams in the sun. At the park, he will lunge at any dog, cat, or person who gets too close to his dad. And anyone who dares approach our gate is greeted with a clear warning: “No one gets past me.”
Ben is going strong as he nears his eleventh birthday this November. God sent him to fill the silence Kathleen left behind. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – without Ben, I would have lost my mind. He’s the one still here with me now that she’s gone to be with Jesus.
Every morning, I see Ben, and I thank God. I kiss and pet my faithful, furry son.
Thank you, Jesus, for Ben.
