Love Does Not Boast — It Doesn’t Need To

“My uncle’s neighbour’s gardener used to know the mother of someone in Khazanah.”
“Oh, you were in the hospital for two days? Last year, I was admitted for an entire week.”
“My husband bought me another ring. Just RM20k.”
“I got promoted again. I really wish the company would give others a chance.”

Boasting comes in many forms. Sometimes, it’s loud and obvious – name-dropping, story-topping, showing off. Other times, it hides in a humblebrag or a casual mention of how well we handled something.

But love does not boast. Why?

Because love doesn’t need the spotlight.

Boasting says, “Look at me.”
Love says, “Let me see you.”
Boasting makes others feel small so we can feel important.
Love lifts others up without counting the cost.

In a world obsessed with recognition, love finds its security in Christ. Jesus, who had every right to boast, washed feet instead. He didn’t need applause to know who He was – and neither do we.

“Let someone else praise you, and not your own mouth; an outsider, and not your own lips.” (Pro 27:2)

If we find ourselves craving attention, perhaps it’s time to return to the one who already sees us. In his love, we are fully known.

So, we choose love –
Not the kind that points inward,
But the kind that stoops low, lifts up, and quietly says,
“You matter more than me today.”
