The Joy of Giving
Some happy moments are fleeting – a good meal, a perfect sunset, a long-awaited purchase. But the joy that comes from giving is lasting. It leaves a warmth that lingers long after the moment has passed.
Giving does not always have to be grand gestures. It can be as simple as sharing your last slice of cake, offering your seat to a stranger, or sending a text just to check in. You let the elderly couple take the elevator as you wait for the next. You give cash every month for a mother dog and her seven pups so they can live. The joy comes not from what leaves your hands, but from what it does in someone else’s life.
Jesus said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35). He was not speaking in theory. He lived it. Every act of kindness and sacrifice becomes a seed of joy, both in the giver and the receiver.
The beauty of giving is that it shifts our focus outward. It frees us from obsessing over what we lack and fills us with gratitude for what we can share. That is why generosity often feels lighter than keeping things for ourselves.
When we give, we participate in a joy that multiplies – a joy that grows in the hands of the person we have touched, and somehow, even more, in our own hearts.
