When I make a podcast with background music, I lower the volume of the background music so the speech can be heard clearly. Do you not wish you can silence the noise in your head?
Very often, the loudest battles are not with other people but inside our own heads. The arguments that replay long after the conversation ended. The self-criticism that will not let us rest. The quiet fear that tomorrow will be heavier than today.
Scripture reminds us of this. “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me.” (John 14:1). Jesus speaks directly to the place where unrest begins – the heart.
Peace within does not mean the absence of struggle. It means the presence of someone greater than the struggle. It is learning to calm the inner storm by remembering who speaks to the wind and waves.
I have had nights when silence felt unbearable when my thoughts ran wild and restless. But I have found that turning my focus outward and upward – to prayer, to gratitude, to the steady rhythm of God’s promises – reshapes the noise inside me. Slowly, the volume lowers. Slowly, my soul remembers it is held.
Peace within is not stumbled upon. It is practiced. Guarded. Chosen. And with him in the boat, it is possible. Even in storms. Especially in storms.
