Some words are so familiar we risk losing their weight. When lived out, they shape the very core of who we are.
Love is not just emotion – it’s choice. It’s holding an umbrella over Ben in the rain even after he bit me. It’s forgiving when it feels undeserved. Love is not draining when it flows from knowing we are already loved by God. “We love because He first loved us” (1 John 4:19).
Joy runs deeper than laughter or comfort. It shows up in small reminders: a sunrise too bright to ignore, Ben nudging my hand, Kathleen’s laughter still echoing in memory. True joy is not from circumstances – it springs from God Himself. “The joy of the Lord is your strength” (Nehemiah 8:10).
Peace is not escape. It is presence. His presence in the boat while storms rage. It is the courage to forgive, the willingness to reconcile, and the quieting of storms within. “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you” (John 14:27).
Together, love, joy, and peace are not virtues we chase – they are fruit of the Spirit, gifts God grows in us, threads woven by His Spirit, holding us steady when life frays at the edges.
Where is God inviting you to choose love today?
Where might he be offering joy in unexpected places?
Where is he whispering peace into your storm?
I invite you to say this prayer.
Lord, teach me to love as you love,
to find joy in your presence,
and to rest in the peace you give.
May these gifts grow in me today. Amen.
