The rain started an hour ago. And he has been walking for as long. He left the house without bringing anything. He did not even pick up his phone. He just wanted to get away. He kept on moving even when his legs were getting heavier. He became soaking wet in mere seconds he stepped out of the house. Rainwater kept pouring on his body. It weighed him down. He just wanted to get out of the house and be alone for a bit. He needed to clear his mind.
If he remained for two more minutes, he was sure he would get crazy. He must be level-headed to figure it out.
He walked past the park, turned left into the clearing, and then followed along the river. By the time he got near the state border, the rain was tapering off. He was now in Petaling Jaya, Selangor. Just about 500 meters away is the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur.
He legs cried for a rest and he complied. He stood for a while before he found a tree stump. He sat down and wiped the moisture off his hair. He tried to do the same for his glasses, but it made very little difference. Rain drops blurred his vision through the lens in just two seconds. It was ok. He did not mind. He just needed to be able to see enough to avoid incoming traffic.
Now that he stopped moving, he finally got a chance to think about it.
She wanted carbonara. Again. Yes, they liked carbonara. With chicken or beef. However, he wanted bolognese occasionally. Nope, she still wanted carbonara. After having carbonara eight nights in a row, he could not stand it anymore. He loved her. He would do anything for her. Or so he thought. How could he say he loved her when he could not even have carbonara for the ninth time in a row. He liked carbonara too, didn’t he? Still, the thought of having carbonara JUST ONE MORE TIME broke him.
He sat for about twenty minutes before he reached a decision. He was going home to finish the carbonara. It’s beef and chicken tonight. After thirty one years of marriage, he was still learning how to love her.
