“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder.” (Is 9:6)
The meaning of Christmas is often misunderstood. Movies and merchants will convince you it is the season for giving. While Christmas is celebrated on 25 December, it will be very hard for you to find a Christian who insists that this is the actual day Jesus Christ was born. The Bible does not give a specific date. The focus of Christmas is not the calendar, but the event itself.
Christmas is a time to remember the birth of Jesus Christ, an event that changed humanity forever. God entered human history, not in power or wealth, but in humility. Through the birth of Jesus, hope came into a broken world, peace was offered to troubled hearts, and reconciliation between God and man became possible.
The true meaning of Christmas is not found in traditions, decorations, or cultural customs. It is found in the incarnation. The Emmanuel, God with us. Through Jesus Christ, forgiveness was made available, relationship with God restored, and the promise of eternal life revealed. His birth began a journey that would lead to the cross and the resurrection.
Christmas reminds us that light entered darkness and love came near. While the date may be symbolic, the meaning of Christmas remains eternal.
I invite you to say this prayer.
Father, Thank You for the gift of Jesus Christ. Help us remember the true meaning of Christmas and live in the hope, peace, and reconciliation You offer through Him. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
