Knowing God Personally: The Reward of Direct Encounter

The is the third and final part in the Experiencing God Personally series. If you missed where we started, here is the first post about the Filet Mignon Fallacy. In our previous post, I shared about the Kitchen of the Kingdom.

We have spent the last two posts talking about the “Filet Mignon Fallacy” and how to move into the “Kitchen of the Kingdom.” But why does it matter? It matters because there is a specific kind of sweetness – a “honey in the rock” – that you simply cannot find anywhere else.

Psalm 81:16 promises that God would satisfy His people with “honey from the rock.“ Imagine this for a moment. A rock is hard, cold, and improbable. Yet, God hides sweetness inside the hardest places. You can hear a thousand stories about “honey,” but your soul won’t be satisfied until you taste it yourself.

The Difference Between a Glimpse and a Transformation

When you hear a testimony, you get a glimpse of God’s goodness. It’s like looking through a window at a warm fire while you are standing in the snow. It looks nice, but you aren’t getting warm.

Knowing God personally is like walking through the door and sitting by the flame.

The testimony encourages you to seek. The encounter changes you.

You can admire a TikTok video of a person working out. You admire his discipline and dedication. However, you won’t get toned muscles or great cardio until you start working out and continue to do so.

Why “Personal” is the Only Way

Second-hand faith is fragile. If your faith is built on your pastor’s passion or your friend’s miracles, what happens when they go through a dry season? If your “food” comes from someone else’s plate, you are always one person away from spiritual starvation.

When you have tasted the honey yourself, your faith becomes unshakeable.

You don’t just believe God is a Comforter because a book said so; you know He is because He comforted you with his rod and staff as you walk through the darkest valley.

You don’t just agree that He is a Provider; you remember the projects that came right before your bank account dips below zero.

Your Invitation to the Feast

The invitation is open to every believer. God is not hiding; He is waiting. He does not want you to be a fan of His work in other people’s lives; He wants to be the primary Love of yours.

Don’t let this series end as just another “good read.” Don’t just click like.

Commit to a “Personal Pursuit”

For the next seven days, make the Bible your first “voice” of the morning. And then continue to do so.

Document the Taste

Keep a journal. Write down one thing you noticed about God’s character each day – not what you heard on a podcast, but what you saw in the Word or what you experience during the day. Stop settling for the menu. He has prepared a table before you in the presence of your enemies, and the honey (or the filet mignon) is waiting. It’s time to eat. Enjoy your meal.
