Greetings! I’m excited to start this series called the Soaking Process – Cultivating Intimacy with God. I want to share with you the importance of consistency in our Christian walk. As we explore how to deepen our relationship with God, let’s begin with a powerful quote from AW Tozer:
“One swallow does not make a spring nor one hot day a summer; nor will a few minutes of frantic praying before service bring out the tender buds or make the flowers to appear on the earth. The field must be soaked in sunshine over a long period before it will give forth its treasure.”
“Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always.” (Ps 105:4)
The Gradual Nature of Spiritual Growth
As Tozer so eloquently puts it, spiritual growth is a gradual process. It’ s not about having one moment of intense prayer or devotion; rather, it’s about consistently showing up and seeking God throughout our daily lives.
Consistency in Prayer and Devotion
Think of your faith journey like a garden. You can’t expect to see flowers bloom overnight just because you watered the soil once, one hour straight (that’s a lot of water!). No, the field must be soaked in sunshine over time for those tender buds to appear. Similarly, we need consistent prayer and devotion to experience spiritual growth and develop intimacy with God.
The Importance of Persistence
Don’ t get discouraged if you don’t see immediate results or feel like your prayers aren’t being answered right away. Remember that the field must be soaked in sunshine over a long period before it will give forth its treasure.
Closing Prayer
Father,
As I embark on this journey of consistency, help me to stay committed and focused on my relationship with you. May I learn to trust Your timing and sovereignty as I seek to deepen our connection with you. I pray in the name of Jesus, Amen.
In the next post, we explore the power of consistent prayer.
