My previous post on the terror in the night suggests everything and anything can put us in unease, worry, and fear. Where can you find comfort? I would like to examine this very question with you.
The hardest nights are the ones where the weight of the world feels personal. It’s the boss who overlooks your effort, the project that feels like it’s hitting a brick wall, the patient who refuses to help themselves, or watching a loyal companion like Ben grow old. When you are in the valley, it is easy to convince yourself that you are the only one struggling. And you are struggling on your own.
You are not.
You are in the presence of the Great Shepherd. Psalm 23:4 reminds us, “Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”
God does not just watch from a distance; He is walking the path with you. But He also gave us each other for a reason. A single coal pulled from the fire turns cold quickly, but together, we keep the heat alive. If you are struggling, reach out to your church community or a trusted friend. Do not carry your burden in isolation.
Do not just think about it. Do something about it. Identify one person in your faith community today – a friend, mentor, or leader – and send them a message. Be honest about one thing weighing on you and ask for their prayer.
I invite you to say this prayer.
Father, thank You for being the Shepherd who never leaves my side, especially in the dark. When I feel overwhelmed by the situations I cannot control, remind me that I am held in Your hands. Help me to remember that I was not meant to walk this road alone. Connect me to the people who can walk with me and help me to be that support for someone else. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
