Some observations on 1 Sam 1.

1. It is during the time of Judges when “each man did what was right in his own eyes.” Yet, similar to Boaz and Ruth, Hannah showed us that we can trust God and choose a different way. We don’t have to follow the way of the world.
2. 1 Sam saw the transition of Israel from a theocracy to a monarchy. The Israelites stubbornly demanded a king instead of their God. They saw the nations around them with kings and they also wanted a king, not acknowledging that God is their King. Do we recognize God as our King and as our Lord and as our Master?
3. We learned from 1 Sam 1 that we need to come to God in prayer with faith. Hannah endured the ridicule of Peninnah and the misunderstanding of Eli. She persevered in her prayer. She chose to keep the faith.
