As we read 1 Sam 3 today, I’d like to jot down a few things for our considerations, pondering, and meditation.
- God can speak to us in unexpected ways.
v1 “In those days the word of the Lord was rare; there were not many visions.”
Eli was the priest. Yet, God chose to speak to Samuel.
** Expect to hear from God. It could be late at night. It could be when are you are travelling. It could be YOU. - “Here I am.” (v8)
Despite all his shortcomings, Eli was sensitive to what God was doing and he taught Samuel how to respond to God. And Samuel was obedient and learned well. Do we listen when God speaks? Or is He at the bottom of our priority list and we only attend to God when we have spare time?
** Always be willing and receptive when God speaks. Focus. - Be humble (v10)
When we humble ourselves before God, we are open to his guidance, direction, and admonition. Trust that He only wants what’s best for us.
** We can grow close to God when we humble ourselves. Let’s devote our full attention when we spend time with Him.
