Good afternoon.
Today, we read 1 Sam 4. Here are some notes I’d like to share.
- Our trust in God is not superstition.
We believe in God, the creator of the heavens and the earth, the Lord of all, the Almighty. We do not invoke him to carry out our command / give us protection with the use of a mantra or a charm.
We trust in God as our Lord and saviour, not a genie we summon when we want him to do something. - Sin disconnects us from the glory of God.
The ark of the covenant represents the presence of God. Why did the Israelites still get routed? This is because they did not obey him. God allowed the enemy to beat them. He also allowed them to recover the ark of the covenant. This is in spite of them not really keen on having him, as we will see in later chapters when they demanded a human king.
We need to trust God, believe in God, obey him, and keep our faith in him. - Today, we are the vessels of God’s honour.
Do we reflect the glory of God in our lives? In what we think, talk, act, behave?
The Israelites in 1 Sam 4, especially the house of Eli gave us a very important lesson – do not take lightly our obedience to God. Do not think we are very smart.
