Greetings.
Can you remember a time when you experience the full wrath of nature? Or something you read / watch? Was it a heavy downpour while you were desperately looking for shelter and a way out of the forest? Rapid currents when you were doing white water rafting? Roaring waves under a dark sky, threatening to topple the cruise ship you are on? The eruption of a volcano near the village you are visiting? Earthquake shaking the very foundation of the building you are in AND your psyche? Have you seen a hurricane from afar?
Nature can be loud and imposing and terrifying. In Psalm 29, we see the nature form a symphony of worship. It opens with two verses calling us to worship. It is not an invitation – if you are free, if you don’t mind, if you are so inclined, please worship God. it is a call. It is a demand.
Verse 2b said this, “Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name.” Do we live, walk, think, speak, breathe to give glory to God? Does our life give glory to God “due his name”?
We read time and time again about the “voice of the Lord”. God is majestic. God is mighty. He is worthy to be praised. Nature which can be scary come together to worship God. Are you going to remain silent? Are you going to pay mere lip service? Give him all the glory. Give him all your love. And please do not make worship a segment of a weekly event. Worship the Lord! Worship the one true living God! Every day! Every moment! Sometimes with a song!
The voice of the Lord is majestic. Itis glorious. It is not always destructive. It speaks of creation, renewal, and transformation. The same force that sends tremors to the earth can also be a source of life and inspiration. It is also true, and good, and beautiful.
In our busy life, have we relegated God to a second or third place? Have we chosen to put him in our “when I have time” slot? Remember our God is the creator of heaven and earth. Our God is the Almighty. Come to him. Cling to him. Do not let the world, tiredness, or anything drive a wedge between God and us. God does not leave us nor forsake us. If we find our relationship with God getting stale, it is us. We are drifting apart from God.
Psalm 29 concluded with two verses that promise God is in charge and he gives peace and strength to his people. Stop looking for strength and peace from anywhere else.
