Good morning, we read Psalm 81 according to the DUMC Bible Reading Plan 2024.
We read about heart of God. He longs for his people to come to him, to listen to him, and to obey him.
Come to the Father!
Is this God to you? You invited him home and chatted with him in the living room for a while. When you have visitors, when you want to use your computer, when you want to stare at the TV, when you want to be glued to your phone, which is most of the time, you put him in the guest room. You bring him out when you need the house cleaned, when you want to go places in your career, when you want your wife to stop being angry, when you want your son to get all A’s, when you want to be healed, when you want to win the RA election, when you want to close a deal, and when you want to sleep but you cannot.
Come to the Father!
He is our father in heaven. He loves us so much. He’s not out genie in a bottle. He’s not a vending machine. He can help, he can heal, he can sort out the mess you created, he can give you creativity and imagination, he can reconcile relationships, he can point you in the right direction, he can save you from your enemies. We are the ones being rebellious, we are the ones wandering away, we are the ones ignoring him, we are the ones neglecting him, we are the ones not giving two hoots to his love, we are the ones trivializing the Word of God so we can be cool in front of others, we are the ones denying Jesus three times before the rooster crows.
Come to the Father, now.
Wander no more. Disobey no more. Grief him no more. Spend time with him. Talk to him. Wait on him. Worship him. Obey him. Love him. Tell others about him.
What is stopping you from coming to your Father? How can you love him as you should?
