David cannot seem to catch a break this week in our Bible reading. His enemies pursue him “all day long!” That’s how David started Psalm 56. Yet, when we read on, we find that this is a psalm that beautifully captures the experience of holding on to God’s promises admist fear and anxiery. Facing enemies and danger, David cried out to God. He also expressed his trust in God’s faithfulness and finding solace in his enduring love.
A repeated theme this week is to turn to God when we face fear and challenges. How do we do that? We come to him in prayer. We can pour our heart out to him. He listens. He comforts. Our hope is anchored in God’s promises. David recalled past instances of God’s faithfulness. He meditated on God’s enduring love. In the midst of life’s storm, God’s promises give us stability. We will praise God and give thanks to him, no matter the circumstances. In good times, in bad times, we life up the name of our God.
What fears and anxieties are weighing on your heart now? What is taking up residence in your mind? Do you remember the many times God helped you out from a tough situation? What are some of the Bible verses that offer you comfort and assurance in challenging times?
No peace? Do you want peace? Please come to know Jesus and accept Jesus. He is the Prince of Peace. The peace of God passes all understanding.
