20/02/2024|Psalm 52 – Trusting God in Humility

Hello. Psalm 52 puts into contrast the arrogance of the wicked and the trust (and humility) of the faithful. It warns against the devastating consequences of pride.

Based on the notes, David wrote this maskil when Doeg the Edomite told Saul that David had gone to the house of Ahimelek.

Guard your heart. David pointed out the proud and deceitful ways of his wicked enemies. However, he did not envy their ways. Instead, he avoided them. He knows that way leads to destruction.

Do not be arrogant. Men who do not know God may think they had it make on their own. They do not think they need God.

Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall. (Proverbs 16:18)

Trust in God’s Justice. Do not fall along the way because “the other side” seems to have it better. We want to remain upright in our Christian Walk. The wicked may seem to prosper and flourish for a while but at the end of everything, God will judge.

Being humble is one of the five Core Values of DUMC. When we trust God, there is no reason for us to be proud and arrogant. We know we depend on God. We know everything we have is from God.

What are the recent occasions when you or your friends feel that you have been a tad proud and conceited? What made you feel that way? How can you prevent this from turning you into a proud person?
