Good day. In 1 Sam 23, we read that while David was on the run for his life, he sought God’s guidance. He saved the people of Keilah from the attack of the Philistines. Yet, they were going to give him up to Saul. He fled before that happened. When he was in Horesh, the Ziphites wanted to offer him up to Saul.
If you were in David’s shoes, what would you think? You tried to do the right thing by helping the people in Keilah. They wanted to give you up to the king who wanted your head. You fled to Horesh. The locals once again wanted to do the same thing.
Stay calm and seek God. To be sure, it was a tumultuous time. We can imagine David getting conflicting advice from every direction. He chose to seek God’s guidance. We can learn from this. When things get tough. when we pressure mounts, before we run in ten different directions like a headless chicken, take a moment to seek God’s wisdom in prayer. If your head is not cool enough to make a decision, chances are you will make a wrong one. God knows better. Trust him. Let him guide you.
Keep the faith – even when things do not go as planned. We wake up. We look at our to-do list and we want to go start checking them off one by one. However, things may not go the way we expect.Things may not go the way we want them to go. Keep your faith in God. We may not know why things happen the way they do. What we know is we can trust God and that he will lead the way just like how he kept David alive until he got the throne.
Take five. It is good to always take a break from what we are doing and check with God to see if we are heading in the right direction. Acknowledge our vulnerability. Tell God how we feel (panic, uneasy, perplexed, tired. Recognize that we need God’s help.
Think of the times you were in a tough spot. Were you inclined to just bulldoze on and hope things will clear up? Did you pause for a moment and realize you have been doing things your own way? What can you do to remember to seek God’s guidance instead of depending on yourself?
We can trust God for his guidance.
