Greetings! It’s the start of a new week’s reading. This week, we read 1 Sam 25 and four chapters of Psalm. We start off with Psalm 140, in which David prayed fervently for protection from evil / violent / wicked / devious / arrogant people who seek to harm him. He was facing an ever-present danger, and he knew he could trust God.
Recognize the Presence of Evil. Acknowledge that evil is out there. Do not glorify them but recognize the presence of evil, negativity, and harmful elements in the world. Do not be naive but seek God’s protection. Do not think we can face evil head on.
Turn to God for Strength. When we face threats or negativity, do not imagine we are can take them on using our own strength or wisdom. Pray to God for his guidance and protection. Pray to God to give you strength and wisdom. Pray to God to know what to do.
Do Not be Afraid. Things can get really scary. You can choose to look at evil and be sad, scared, helpless. Or you can look to God and have peace, be courageous, and be guided.
What kind of evil do you observe around you or in the world? What scares you? What is your source of strength and security? Know that you can seek refuge in God.
