In Psalm 6, we read about the deep emotions running through David. He was in anguish, despair, he felt weak. He prayed to God for mercy and healing. He longed for relief.
Be real. We do not have to be shy to express our feeling when we come to God. David was honest to God when he expressed his vulnerability. With so many negative emotions ran through his mind, David came clean with God. He acknowledged he was “wearing off”, he was “faint”, and his “eyes were growing weak.” He was weak physically and he was an emotional wreck. He was in trouble, he needed God’s help.
Seek God’s Mercy and Healing. David was very clear what he needed from God when he pleaded for God to intervene – mercy and healing. Are you overwhelming? Remember our God is a compassionate God. And he is a healer. Trust him to see you through.
Hold on to Hope. God is our hope. Even in great despair, David put his hope in God. He knew God heard his weeping, heard his cry for mercy, and accepted his prayer. Do you? In the darkest moments, God does not abandon us. When we are walking through the darkest valley, we fear no evil. There is hope for brighter days.
Have you been struggling with emotional pain? Are you in a difficult situation that is weighing heavily on you? How can you express your feelings honestly to God in prayer? Is there anyone who can support you while you cry out to God? What areas in your life do you think you need God’s healing? How do you keep your hope in God even when things do not look good?
