Guilt and shame can have you kicking yourself non-stop. It makes you feel worthless. It makes you think you cannot bounce back. In Psalm 130, David acknowledged he was in the depth. He sought forgiveness from God.
Acknowledge Your Sins. David spoke of “the depths of the pit” and crying out to God. It is important for us to recognize our shortcomings and to admit our wrongdoings to God.
Seek Forgiveness Through Repentance. David did not wallow in self-pity. He desired forgiveness. He sought forgiveness from God. It is not enough for us to acknowledge our sins and seek forgiveness; we need to repent. We need to turn away from our sins.
Trust in God’s Mercy and Redemption. David trusted in God’s unfailing love and he knews God is willing to forgive. No matter how bad we fall along the way, as long as we turn to God and repent and seek his forgiveness, God offers redemption and a second chance. God can give us a fresh start.
David ended Psalm 130 with the hope for Israel’s restoration. This is an even broader scope of hope, which is available to anyone who seeks forgiveness from God.
