23/05/2024|The Power of Forgiveness

Absalom avenged his sister Tamar. He became estranged from his father. 2 Sam 14 recorded the story of reconciliation between David and his son, Absalom. Joab knew his king’s desire. He engineered the reconciliation. David knew his right hand man. He knew Joab had a hand in it. That shows great understanding between King David and Joab. The reconciliation shows the power of forgiveness, patience, and restoration.

Take Steps to Reconcile. Joab initiated the reconciliation. This reminds us that reconciliation needs proactive steps, even when it does not feel comfortable.

The importance of Forgiveness. While David’s anger was justified, he still chose to forgive Absalom. Broken relationships can be restored through the transformative power of forgiveness.

Patience and Persistence. Reconciliation may not happen overnight. As much as we desire to mend relationships, more often than not, it takes time and therefore it takes patience and persistence from both side. It also takes time to rebuild trust. It takes consistent effort to heal broken relationships.

Are there any relationships in your life that need reconciliation? How can you take the first step towards healing and forgiveness? What practical ways can you show patience and persistence in the reconciliation process?

You can say this prayer if you want.

Father in heaven, help us to see the importance of reconciliation in our lives. Give us the courage to forgive those who have hurt us and the humility to seek forgiveness for what we did wrong. Guide us with patience and give us the strength to rebuild broken relationships. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
