Imagine you are forced to cross a chasm between two hilltops 500 meter apart, walking across a tightrope 200 meters above rushing waters. There is no turning back. Backing up will result in a bullet in your head. Moving forward will likely result in a fall to certain death. Your enemies are shouting on both sides of the tight rope. Doubt is whispering to you that you will surely not make it.
Psalm 25 offers comfort in such moments. It is a declaration of unwavering trust in god’s unfailing love, guidance, and protection, even in the face of seemingly unsurmountable odds.
“Who, then, are those who fear the Lord? He will instruct them in the ways they should choose” (Psalm 25:12)
The psalmist does not deny the presence of difficulties. Rather, he focuses on God. He knows God to be faithful, righteous, and ever loving. We are encouraged to cling to God’s promises, even when the circumstances seem uncertain.
I do not know what is troubling you. An illness. Poverty. No income. Death of a loved one. Pain. Persecution. Being overlooked for a deserved promotion. Someone cut the queue before you. We cannot tell when we encounter such things. What we can count on is God.
You are invited to say this prayer.
Heavenly Father, in times of uncertainty and fear, we choose to trust you. Strengthen our resolve to trust in you. Remind us of your unfailing love and your everlasting promises. Guide us and lead us in your righteous light. In the name of Jesus, amen.
