You are alone. You are in doubt. Your enemies surround you. They take joy in your struggles. Discouragement weights you down. You cannot see the light at the end of the tunnel. This is the emotion captured in Psalm 3. Yes, amidst the despair, a powerful theme strongly emerges – even in the darkest moments, we can find hope and strength by turning to God.
There is no pretense in the psalmist with regards to his feelings. He honestly cries out to God. He acknowledges his pain and fear. He does not try to carry his burden on his own. He brings it to God – the glory and the lifter of his soul!
We should keep our focus in God. Turn our attention to him instead of looking at the problems. He is our shield. Trust God. Find our peace in God. Keep our heads up high.
You are invited to say this prayer.
Father, when our hearts are clouded with doubt and fear, give us the courage to cry out to you. Give us the courage to be honest before you with our deepest struggles. You are our safe haven in the storm. Help me to remember your unfailing love and strength. Guide us through difficult times. In the name of Jesus, amen.
