How do you approach God in prayer? It is a ceremonial ritual that you carry out where the outcome does not matter? Or an urgent plea for help in desperation? When was the last time you truly poured out your heart to God with urgency and desperation? Just as David urgently cried out to God in Psalm 70, we too should approach God with a fervent need for His intervention in our lives.

In moments of distress, let us not hesitate to seek God’s help immediately and earnestly. Embrace the urgency in prayer, trusting that God hears our cries and responds with His timely and powerful deliverance. Come to God in desperation. Do not just go through the motion. Dive deeper into this powerful approach to prayer and experience God’s swift aid and comfort.

Psalm 70 is a brief, urgent plea for God’s deliverance and help. David calls on God to rescue him quickly from his enemies and to bring shame and confusion upon those who seek his harm. It highlights the psalmist’s desperate need for God’s intervention and his unwavering trust in God’s ability to save.

A key lesson from Psalm 70 is the importance of seeking God’s help in times of urgent need. It reminds us to turn to God swiftly and trust in His timely deliverance and protection. If you have to stop your car by the roadside, if you have to excuse yourself from a Zoom meeting, if you have to stop your 50 laps of swimming, do it. Do not wait.

I invite you to say this prayer.

Father in heaven, in moments of distress and urgency, I call upon you for help. Deliver me from my troubles and protect me from those who seek my harm. Strengthen my faith in your timely intervention and unwavering support. In the name of Jesus, amen.
