03/07/2024|2 Sam 23 – Finishing Well

In my high school, we used to do cross country run along Jalan Gasing. During PE lessons, we run two rounds in Taman Jaya. I remember once I started with a spring to keep up the pace with the others. However, I quickly ran out of breath. (No pun intended.) Many ran past me as I slowed to a crawl to catch my breath.

The start may determine the end. However, if we do not persist, we can start well but we do not end well. It is important to start well. It is equally if not more important to end well.

David is a man after God’s own heart. He started to demonstrate great courage and exemplary faith in God since young. He had some bad patches when he did things that do not please God. He repented of his sins. As he closed in on the end of his life on earth, he reflected on God’s faithfulness.

David started well. During his life journey, he made some wrong turns. He returned to the path.

We get a good start when we know Jesus and give our life to Jesus. Along the way in our Christian walk, we may (and we will) stray from the straight and narrow. It is important we try to get back to the right path, following God’s leading. We want to end up in the right path when we finish the race. Keep running, my dear readers, and keep winning for Christ.

I invite you to say this prayer.

Dear Heavenly Father,

As I walk the path of faith, guide my steps. Grant me the perseverance to overcome challenges and the wisdom to learn from my stumbles. May my heart remain ever turned towards you, and my actions reflect your love and grace. Help me finish well, not by my own merit, but by the strength you provide. Let my life be a testament to your faithfulness, and a beacon of hope for those around me. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
