2 Sam 22 echoes the emotions in Psalm 61. David addressed his problems but keeps his faith in God. It offers hope. David offers his thanksgiving after God delivered him from his enemies.
“My God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold, my refuge, my savior— you save me from violence.” (verse 3)
David does not get puffed up after deliverance. He does not take credit for overcoming his enemies. He does not see himself as the source of his own strength. Where does he think his help come from? His rock, his shield, and his stronghold – God. It is vital we have the right perspective. If we rely on our own limited resources, we will eventually hit a brick wall. When we look for strength from God, we find that we can overcome seemingly insurmountable challenges.
When we face problems, pray, read the Bible, talk to people you can trust. By actively seeking God’s strength, we can face any challenge life throws our way.
I invite you to say this prayer.
Dear Father, in moments of weakness and despair, help me remember that you are my rock and my strength. Grant me the faith to trust in your power and the courage to keep going, even when the path seems difficult. I place my trust in you. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
