Psalm 139 is a beautiful expression of intimacy with God. God knows us closely and he cares for us. David recognized that God knows everything about him. This understanding is comforting. It reminds us that we are never alone.
“You have searched me, LORD, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.” (verses 1 to 3)
If you ever have self-doubt, if someone’s malicious words are taking effect on you, consider what David said in verses 13 and 14. He acknowledges that he is the wonderful creation of God. Everyone of us is made uniquely and purposefully.
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. (verses 13, 14)
Verses 7 to 10 assures us of God’s constant presences. Wherever you go, whatever you do, I will be right here waiting for you.
Meditate on this psalm and let it remind you of God’s deep love and care. He knows you completely and he loves you. In times of joy, in times of struggle, we find comfort in his presence and guidance.
I invite you to say this prayer.
Abba Father, thank you for your intimate knowledge and care for me. I am grateful that you know every detail of my life. You know the number of hair I have on my head. I am wonderfully made by your hand. Help me to rest in the assurance of your constant presence and guidance. Let me live each day with the awareness of your love. Let me seek to align my heart and actions with your will. Let me remember there is a purpose in my life. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
