Good day, my dear readers. Today, we read Psalm 127, which reminds us of a very important truth – without God in our lives and what we do, it is in vain.

“Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.” (verse 1)

Many of us are very focused on what we do. We find a passion, a career, a calling, then we invest our time, energy, and resources into it. We want to build our lives, our relationships, our careers, and our ministries. We work hard for success, stability, and security. Working hard to pursuit our goals is not inherently wrong. However, if we are not careful and we neglect to seek God’s guidance and blessings, the goals may turn into idols. In short, our efforts are futile without God’s involvement.

A house without a solid foundation will not stand. When we place our trust in God, we can be assured that he will be the architect of our lives, designing and building the sturdiest building. He can be our potter, molding us in his hands into a useful vessel. Like a skilled builder, he lays a firm foundation, ensuring we can weather the storms in our lives.

Let us stop building sandcastles. Let us stop building castles in the air. Let us seek God’s hand in all that we do. Let us pray for his wisdom, strength, and direction. We can trust in God’s sovereignty, knowing his plans for us are good, pleasing, and perfect.

I invite you to say this prayer.

My father, thank you for reminding me of my dependence on you. Help me to seek your guidance in all that I do. Give me the wisdom to recognize your hand in my life and the courage to trust your plan. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
