I cannot read verses 1 and 29 of Psalm 118 without the song playing in my mind. Psalm 118 is a vibrant hymn of thanksgiving and praise. It celebrates God’s enduring love and faithfulness. It is a song of triumph and victory. It reminds us to give thanks to the Lord for his steadfast goodness.
Throughout the psalm, the psalmist sings of God’s deliverance in times of distress. He declares he is not afraid when he is surrounded by enemies. This encourages us to place our trust on God rather than man. If God is for us, who can be against us?
Verse 22 also points to the victory found in Jesus. Indeed, Jesus Christ is the foundation of our faith. As we read and meditate on Psalm 118, may it inspire us to live with thanksgiving. Let us trust in God’s unfailing love and rejoice in the salvation he provides.
