Dear readers, we read 2 Kings 20:1-11 today. It is a remarkable story of King Hezekiah’s illness and God’s miraculous healing. A seriously ill Hezekiah is told he is going to die. He pleads with God in earnest prayer. God hears his heartfelt prayer and not only heals him but also gives him 15 years. Hezekiah asks God for a sign, and he gets the sign. The shadow moves backwards ten steps on the sundial.
We read the power of sincere prayer. We also read about God’s willingness to show his mercy to those who seek him. In his book, Inexpressible: Hesed and the Mystery of God’s Lovingkindness, Michael Card explained hesed this way, “When the person from whom I have a right to expect nothing gives me everything.” Think about this.
God owes us nothing. Yet, he hears our prayers, sees our tears, and he can intervene in our most desperate situations. Even when it seems hopeless, God’s compassion and power can bring about miraculous changes. Trust him.
Are you in desperation? Are you in a hopeless situation? Are you still looking for the light at the end of the tunnel? Make an appointment with God. Put aside everything else. Tell him everything. Leave nothing behind. Tell him how you feel. Tell him what you need.
Let us pray.
Father, thank you for your mercy and for hearing my prayers. Help me to turn to you in my times of need, trusting in your ability to bring healing, deliverance, and restoration. My hope is in you. May I always remember that with you, nothing is impossible. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
