30/08/2024|2 Kings 21 – Be Obedient

CC0.

God’s law is clear. It is quite simple but not easy. Just follow his words.

2 Kings 21 tells us the reign of King Manasseh, marked by evil and idolatry. It is a stark contrast to the relative righteous rule of his father, King Hezekiah. Manasseh does not follow God’s commandments. He leads the nation astray by introducing pagan practices that has been previously eliminated.

He builds altars to worship every kind of foreign idols, desecrates the temple, and even sacrifices his own son. His act of rebellion provokes God’s wrath which results in the invasion of Assyria and the destruction of Jerusalem. His downfall (and taking the nation down along with him), is a grave reminder of the consequences of spiritual apathy and disobedience.

Manasseh is one of the most evil kings in Israel. Yet, we read about his repentance in 2 Chronicles 33:1-10. However, that is another story for another day.

Manasseh’s disobedience should be a lesson for all of us. Do not take God’s commandments lightly. Read the Word of God, know it, commit it to memory, obey it.

I invite you to say this prayer.

Father, help me to remain steadfast in my faith and to resist the temptation to stray from your path. Grant me the wisdom to recognize the consequences of sin and the courage to walk in your ways. May I always strive to live my life that honours your name. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen,
