12/09/2024|Psalm 79 – A Plea for Restoration

Have you ever felt overwhelmed by the brokenness around you? There is no peace. There is no security. There is no safety. You sometimes wonder where God is in all these troubles. Psalm 79 beats with the heart of someone witnessing devastation and is crying out to God for restoration.

The psalmist, Asaph, cries for destruction of Jerusalem by invaders. The temple is defiled, the city is in ruins, and the people are slaughtered. Amid this, Asaph turns to God. He pleads for mercy and forgiveness. He asks God to act on behalf of this people.

This call for help is seen even more clearly in verse 9. Despite the overwhelming circumstances, Asaph recognizes God can deliver and restore. He also acknowledges the effect of sin on their suffering, but he still seeks God’s mercy.

In times of devastation, be it personal or communal, we can always turn to God for help and restoration. His mercy is greater than our failures. He is always ready to act for the sake of his name. Call on God now.

I invite you to say this prayer.

Father, I come before you in brokenness. I ask for your help and deliverance. Forgive my sins, heal my wounds, and restore what has been lost. I trust in your great mercy. I ask for our hand of restoration in my life, I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
