Psalm 83 is an urgent cry for God’s help in a time of great danger. Asaph, the psalmist, pleads with God to protect Israel from its enemies. They have come together in a conspiracy to destroy Israel. We feel the intense pressure felt by God’s people as they face those who seek their downfall. They depend totally on God for deliverance.
Verse 1 immediately sets the tone of urgency and desperation. It calls on God to act swiftly against those who oppose his people. Psalm 83 encourages us to call on God in times of trial and when we face oppression. Our God is not distant or indifferent to our struggles. Even when it feels like the world is against us, we can trust God and depend on God. Just like Asaph, we can ask God to intervene. We can ask God for help. We can trust God to protect and defend us.

I invite you to say this prayer.
Father in heaven, I ask for your protection and deliverance in times of trial. When enemies rise against me, give me the courage to turn to you and trust in your power. Help me to rest in the assurance that you hear my cry and you are always near. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
