17/09/2024|Psalm 80 – A Cry for Restoration

Multiple times in Psalm 80, Asaph, the psalmist says, “Restore us, O God; make your face shine on us, that we may be saved.” This shows the emphasis of a deep longing for renewal and deliverance. He cries out for God to restore his nation. The people of Israel, in their distress, recognize that restoration comes only from God. Their circumstances, caused by sin, hardship, and invasion – drive them to seek God’s intervention. The repeated cry for restoration is not just for physical salvation but also for a rekindled relationship with God.

In our Christian walk, we face may face seasons of darkness or despair. We may feel spiritually dry. We may feel distant from God. Psalm 80 reminds us that God is the source of our restoration and renewal. God delivered Israel. God can also deliver us. He can restore our broken hearts, broken lives, broken homes, and broken relationships.

Do you need God to restore anything in your life? Do you need God to deliver you from any tribulations in your life? Do you need God to intervene the downward spiral in your life?

I invite you to say this prayer.

My Father in heaven, I ask for your restoration in my life. Shine your face upon me and renew my spirit. In times of difficulty, help me to remember that you alone are my saviour. Restore me to your love. Let me walk in your light. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen,
