What can we do when we feel God is far away? What can we do when we see the brokenness in the world? In the following week, as we read Jer 5, Jer 6, Jer 10, Ps 88, and Ps 137, we see the Bible addresses the deep sense of loss, judgement, and the longing for restoration.
The three chapters of Jeremiah warn Israel of the imminent judgement due to their persistent sin and rejection of God. These chapters paint a clear picture of a people who turn their backs on their God. They chose idolatry over the Creator God. They chose injustice over righteousness. The warnings are clear – unless there is repentance, destruction will follow.
The two chapters of Psalm express profound grief and feelings of abandonment. Psalm 88 laments that “darkness in my closest friend” while Psalm 137 reflects the anguish of Israel’s exile.
The common theme throughout these passages is the reality of God’s judgement and the pain of separation from him. They also call us to reflect, repent and cry out to God in our darkest moments. These passages remind us that, even in times of suffering, we are invited to return to God with humble hearts.

I pray that you will join me this week. Let us take time to read Jer 5, Jer 6, Jer 10, Ps 88, and Ps 137. Let us reflect on God’s justice and the reality of human suffering. Let us be aware of his invitation for us to return to him.
