10/10/2024|Psalm 120 – Calling on God in Distress

Every call, every SMS, every WhatsApp / Telegram message could be an attempt to clean up your bank account. Even apps you download could be doing the same thing.

Our society is full of deceptions. We must find ways to cope with this. Psalm 120 shows us what is it like to call on God for help when you are in a difficult and hostile environment.

The psalmist is deeply troubled by lies and hostility. He is in anguish over living among deceitful people and an atmosphere of tension and unrest.

I call on the Lord in my distress, and he answers me. “Save me, Lord, from lying lips and deceitful tongues.” (Verses 1 and 2)

The psalmist trusts in God’s power to deliver him from falsehood and conflict. He turns to God for help. When we face lies, manipulations, or other forms of conflict, we can find refuge in God. He hears our prayers and gives us peace when the world feels overwhelming.

In today’s world, deceit and conflict surround us in many forms – through relationships, social pressures, or even the media. Like the psalmist, we must call out to God in those moments of distress, trusting that he hears, and he will deliver us.

I invite you to say this prayer.

Father, in times of distress and conflict, help me to turn to you for peace and deliverance. Save me from deceit and guide me in your truth. Strengthen my heart as I trust in you. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
