You have been in the desert for days. Just when you are about to give up hopes, you see a miracle. The dry riverbed in front of you, cracked and lifeless, is suddenly filled with fresh rainwater. What was once parched and empty becomes full and vibrant. Ps 85 is about renewal. It captures the longing for spiritual revival in the face of droughts in our lives.
“You, Lord, showed favor to your land; you restored the fortunes of Jacob” (verse one)
Ps 85 starts with the psalmist recalling God’s past mercies. The psalmist reflects on God’s forgiveness and compassion. He asked him to once again bring life to his people. The heart of this prayer for revival is clearly seen in verses 6 and 7.
“Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you? Show us your unfailing love, Lord, and grant us your salvation.”
Ps 85 encourages us to trust in God’s renewing power, even when we feel distant or weary. Just like a dried riverbed can be filled with fresh water, our hearts can be revived through God’s grace and forgiveness. God’s love is unchanging. His desire is to restore and bring joy to his people. In our own lives, we can make space for revival by turning back to him. Seek his presence and trust his mercy.
I invite you to say this prayer.
Father, thank you for your unchanging love and mercy. I pray for your revival in my heart and in my communities. Restore me, fill me with joy, and help me to seek your presence each day. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
