You are separated from the expedition team. You are trekking through the vast Mohave desert. With the scorching sun above and your water supply gone, each step feels heavier than the last. You begin to wonder if you will ever find your way out alive. Ps 107 speaks to moments like this – when we feel stranded in the wilderness, when our ship is being tossed around by huge waves in the storm, unsure of how or when we will find relief.
“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever” (verse one.)
Ps 107 invites us to remember God’s steadfast love. It tells the stories of people in desperate situations – lost travellers, prisoners, the sick, those in violent storms. In each of the situations, they cry out to God. God answers, provides guidance, healing, and peace.
The psalmist reminds us that no matter what situation we find ourselves in – be it a literal prison or an emotional desert, or a spiritual storm – God is just a prayer away. Are you tired, overwhelmed, or feeling lost? Ps 107 encourages us to lift our voices in thanksgiving and to remember that God hears us. Gratitude renews our strength. Gratitude also reminds us of God’s faithfulness in the past and that he will continue to be faithful.
I invite you to say this prayer.
Father, thank you for your unfailing love and mercy. Even when I feel lost or burdened, you are near. You offer comfort and guidance. Help me to remember your goodness, to trust your leading, and to give thanks in all circumstances. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
